New Greek cabinet to avoid further austerity measures

FXstreet.com (Barcelona) - Following yesterday's reshuffling of the Greek government by PM Antonis Samaras, in an attempt to prop up the coalition after one of the junior partners had left it last week, the new cabinet has been sworn in today at midday.

PASOK leader, Evangelos Venizelos, took on the role of deputy prime minister as well as the role of foreign minister. Yannis Stournaras retained his position as finance minister, while New Democracy’s Kyriakos Mitsotakis will now be supervising administrative reforms.

After the swearing-in ceremony Antonis Samaras told the ministers that attaining stability and unity in Greece was currently of utmost importance. He listed structural reforms, achieving a primary surplus, spurring employment and preparing the country to hold the European Union's rotating six-month presidency in 2014 as the main objectives for the new cabinet. The Greek PM also said that introducing further austerity measures should be avoided.
